The modification is welcomed and supported. However I cannot see any Heritage strategy or local list to support, does this not make the policy ineffective?

Object- the removal of "Proposals will only be permitted where they retain the significance, appearance, local distinctiveness, character or setting of a local heritage asset.". Weakens the policy.

The County Council is supportive of the revised text in this policy as it now includes all heritage assets whether statutorily protected, locally listed or non-designated. However, KCC would recommend that the opening paragraph "The Council supports the retention of local heritage assets, including listed buildings, structures, features and gardens of local interest. MM143 – the removal of 'Local' and insertion of 'listed' confuses the purpose of this policy – is it intended to apply to designated (i.e. statutorily listed) or non-designated (i.e. locally listed) buildings? Including the reference to being "in accordance with the criteria in the NPPF" undermines the purpose of a locally specific policy and this wording should not be added to the policy.

The Broadstairs Society welcomes the modification and will work with the District Council on any Heritage Strategy that is to be drafted. To this end, please note the Draft Broadstairs and St. Peter's Neighbourhood Plan already has a schedule of locally listed buildings.
