I OBJECT TO THE PROPOSAL FOR MIXED USE DEVELOPMENT AND THE PLAN TO BUILD 2,500 HOUSES ON MANSTON AIRPORT.

MANSTON Airport is designated for Aviation use only, and should remain so. I reason thus:-

2.1 Whilst this land is still designated for aviation use only, and so long as the Thanet Local Plan to 2031 is at draft stage and still unapproved, I feel no proposals to change its use can be approved or put into place. So long as interest is being expressed in retaining MANSTON as a fully functioning airport, and so long as there is strong local support for its role as an airport, I believe this part of the draft plan should be deleted.

I believe we need to retain MANSTON as an operational airport. I see it as a National Asset, strategically and defensively. It has a runway of 9,000ft making it the 10th longest civilian runway in the UK and one of the widest in Europe. It has been used for training flight crews for the Airbus 380 and Dreamliner aircraft. It has been used by Virgin Airlines and others for pilot training.

If Manston was used as a major freight terminal then runway capacity at London Airports could be free'd up, possibly negating the need for new runways.  Connection to rail routes would be possible as there are two mainline routes very close - both with connection to HS1.

It would also be another runway to be used in cases of emergency.

There is not enough employment or infrastructure in Thanet, so building thousands more home in the area is wrong.
